Katherine's Wood in Lavender Hall Park

What it is

"Katherine's Wood" in Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common, began as a fundraising project in 2006 to plant trees in memory of a local young lady who was lost tragically in March 2006.  The wood was planted in two phases with a variety of local native trees and shrubs, over 2100 in all. Our club adopted the project and was successful in obtaining a Big Lottery "Breathing Places" award, thus doubling the original size of the project and helping create a more or less continuous wildlife corridor across the Park. In 2008 Solihull Council was able to declare the Park a Local Nature Reserve and in July 2009 the Park was officially opened as a Nature Reserve by Chris Packham (BBC Springwatch presenter), along with the Mayor of Solihull, Cllr David Bell and our Meriden MP, Caroline Spelman.

Toiletries for Heartlands Hospital

Soap, Flannels and other Toiletries for Heartlands Hospital? Yes, we still need these items for Heartlands Hospital. The need is the same as it has been. Some elderly people are brought into hospital and they lack basic items to maintain their personal hygiene and often the finance to provide them. It is difficult to believe in the 21st century but apparently it happens too often. All contributions will be welcomed and collected by Geoff Arthur.

Old mobile phones for Foundation

If anyone has any old mobile telephone(s) or empty ink cartridges, Jane has envelopes to send them in to District. They will donate £10 per phone for the charity of our choice. We have already been promised the proceeds from the phones for Foundation.
